Krabi - Boat Noodle Aonang

Looks romantic eh? The name of the shop is Boat Noodle Aonang, and indeed they cook the noodle on a real boat set at the front of the shop =)

Coconut and banana shake, you can get plenty of fruit shake around Krabi.

Raw leaves and beansprout to eat with Boat Noodle(see below),

Boat Noodle with seafood, I can barely see the noodles, hidden by the prawns, squid and fish chunks...the soup was special, there was a nice fragrant, the noodle has a more solid and chewy texture than bihun, you have to taste it yourself =P

Fried kangkung with salted fish (they call it morning glory there,i dunno why...??)

Fried crabmeat with curry powder, vege and egg. However the taste was too salty and less crabmeat compared to Ruen Mai restaurent. Ruen Mai cooked the same dish better, and the price was almost the same. So better go to Ruen Mai for real crabmeat with curry =(

Krabi - Ruen Mai, most delicious Thai food restaurent

Entrance to Ruen Mai, there was no english restaurent name so had to ask around but locals all praised the food when they hear Ruen Mai, sounds promising...and indeed it was !

Nicely decorated and with bamboo/wood furnitures, I can imagine how romantic it will look at night.

We chose a table and asked for dish recommendation.
"Neua Pu Pad Pong Kari", 150 baht - Fried crab meat with curry powder, celery and onion. Lots of crab meat and reasonably priced too. I tried this dish at a different shop, Ruen Mai won !

"Pad Pak Mieng", 90 baht - local vegetable fried with oyster sauce and smoke dried fish.The serving portion was huge, the leafy vege was quite unique.

"Yum Med Ma Muang", 110 baht - spicy cashewnuts and mango salad. Look at the generous portion of cashewnuts! Very spicy indeed even though you can't see many chilli shreds, we dapao this back as all the food portion was big and tasted good.

"Tom Yum Nam Kon", 120 baht - spicy shrimp, fish, squid seasoned with chilli paste and coconut milk. Again, lots of goodies in the bowl. If you do not like coconut milk, you can choose a different tom yum with clear soup.

Friendly service, relaxing environment, yummy food, reasonably priced, definitely recommended by me, enjoy !

Krabi - Roadside stall Pancake

At Krabi it is common to see such Pancake stalls by the roadside. The wide variety of filling reminded me of "Banchen Kuih" in Malaysia =P

This stall was in front of McD at Aonang.

First she placed a small chunk of butter on the pan, then spreaded the dough thin roti canai style.

Then she added some sugar, an egg and sliced bananas.

My Banana + Egg pancake, didn't it looked like roti canai ??

The taste was soft (due to the egg), maybe without egg it will be crispier and even more similar to roti canai ^^

Magnum Mini Liqueur - Irish Cream and Limoncello

Eating ice-cream during winter time, I also think I am nuts ("=_=) but I couldn't resist when I saw Magnum Mini Liqueur - Irish Cream and Limoncello selling at 1,79 euro per packet, containing 6 mini magnum.( tham jiak 的后果就是很冷,很冷)

3 each per packet.

Top : Lemon ice-cream with a swirl of Limoncello sauce(9%) coated with white chocolate(30%).
Bottom: Irish cream flavour ice-cream with a swirl of Irish Cream sauce(9%) coated with milk chocolate(30%)

The lemon and Irish Cream taste was noticeable, and not too overwhelming too, nice.

It was stated "Store at -18C", I think I can just switch off the heater and leave it on the table, lol. Is it also available in Malaysia ?

糖伯府 Tong Pak Fu at Raja Uda, Penang

There are more and more tong sui shop blooming around penang, lots of penangites wrote about Tong Pak Fu's new outlet at pulau tikus but I have only visited the old Tong Pak Fu at Raja Uda("=_=)

The Raja Uda shop was EMPTY when I dropby around 2pm on a Monday, so I had the whole place to myself...There was a small stage for live performance too.

Mango Coconut Ice-cream - RM12.80

The taste was a little too thick and creamy for me, although I like the mango sorbet ball at the top...

Durian Black Rice - RM 15.80

This was nice, like the texture of black rice with durian. I finished it =P

Japanese Seaweed Tofu - RM5.80

Something hot for snack after all the cold desserts.

芙蓉姨婆老鼠粉 Yi Poh Lou Xu Fan at Seremban

Here is an old post which I left out, photos were taken with lousy camera phone so pls bear with me...芙蓉美食"姨婆老鼠粉", this is a must eat if you go to Seremban. I've only been there during morning...be prepare to wait, the kopitiam was full with customers. The Lou Xu Fan was even featured on the famous TV show HoChiak !

The famous Lou Xu Fan had minced meat, Char Siew and a sprinkle of spring onions on top.

Personally I love the Hakka noodles more than the Lou Xu Fan.

Meatballs in soup, very "bouncy", I think it was RM 0.55/ball...

They also served fishballs but it was forgettable, just concentrate on the meatballs will do =P

also the fried Dumplings were stuffed full of meat paste then fried until crispy on the outside but juicy in the inside, mmmmm....*crunch*crunch*

I miss this kind of breakfast so much, now only bread or joghurt available, sigh*

German food at Gartenlaube in Marburg, Germany

Ahmmm...1st post in year 2012, I had a good start this year, stumbled upon this restaurent during my visit to Marburg, Germany.

Gartenlaube is a bar and restaurent with beautiful decorations, comfy sofa and dimmed lights. Gartenlaube in German language means "Garden Arbor" (Arbor : a shelter of vines or branches or of latticework covered with climbing shrubs or vines), therefore I was impressed with how they decorated the restaurent to suit the theme and for X'mas, it was simply crawling with gifts on the roof !

This was the window just beside my sofa, lovely, isn't it ?

I only ate at the restaurent and didn't drink at the bar, this was the Potato Soup with Sausage(baguette included)

And also one of the items on the Weekend Menu, Pork With Beer Sauce and side dishes : potatoes and red cabbage. They cooked the pork in the oven so well until it was very tender and juicy, one of the best I've tasted at a german restaurent.

One of them which attracted me was the Night Watchman,

在Venice什么好吃?Polpette啦

If you go to Venice, Italy and stay at Ca' D'oro area, there is a tiny restaurent I like, hiding in a dark alley, but u will be amazed to see people lining up in front the shop before they are open for business. They come for the house special ---> Polpette !

Polpette ( meat balls) 1.50 euro each

When I took my 1st bite, I had a nice surprise becoz it was so soft and fluffy inside, I was expecting the usual "solid-meaty-balls"! Yet the shape was round and perfect after fried. The italians stand around drinking wine and eating hot Polpette.

The 1st night we went without reservations so we were turned away and came back the 2nd day with a table reserved for us ( persistent group we were =p), my dinner (with more Polpette) and also a spicy plate of spaghetti with 2 big-head-prawns, thumbs up ! I went back to hotel feeling satisfied...

Spaghetti Alla Busara (with shrimps, tomatoes, herns and chili) 10 euro

The tiny restaurent only fits in only 4 to 5 tables, with simple deco and delicious food at reasonable price.

See all the people lining up at the counter? They were buying Polpette, people queue in the cold night for it !

There was only 1 page menu, with price clearly stated, no fuss

If you do visit, make sure you place a reservation before you go !

德国篇Germany - 下午茶 Tea time

From a cafe : Chocolate layer cake, cherrie cheesecake and the 3rd cake was the best, I think it was peach mousse cake.

And one whole homebaked cheesecake ! The side looks a bit black but it was not bitter.

Baked by Irene, the owner of Landgasthof Schwarz (she was trying to help me cover up my fat arm, lol)

I can feel the power when I chain the dog by her collar and brought her for a walk, bcoz she is a really big dog with shiny coat =P in the pic below she was yawning, after that she lay down under the sun while Irene + her husband + her assistant + I had afternoon tea.

星期日在Eisenach after high tea喝咖啡,吃蛋糕后到空旷的街道散步,整齐清洁的街道．走累了又找东西吃．．．

Saw a restaurant with many customers enjoying their meal, so we also went in to try our luck.
Huge slab of fried fish fillet 1cm thick, with quarter lemon, fresh salad, tartar sauce and french fries.

Chicken Nuggets Burger looks normal from this photo, but the size of the burger was as big as my Chilli Con Carne Burger in the next photo.. scroll down...

没骗你,汉堡真的很大吧！吃到鼻孔都撑大,太没形象了...

大优宾香港点心Dai You Bin Hong Kong Dimsum Restaurant

How could I missed the Tom Yam Har Kao ??!!! It was sold out when I reached there at 11am, Sunday (Sunday is a working day in Kedah...)
Dai You Bin was even on Guang Hwa newspaper in year 2010, it is impossible to not see the shop when u passby Dai You Bin with the huge green signboard all the way across the width of 4 shoplots.

So I tried to make myself feel better by eating n eating n eating, juz joking =P

At least I still get to taste the fluffy Char Siu Pau, one of the best I've eaten !

Dai You Bin is famous for 少肉多虾 "less pork,more prawns", can u see the prawns filling up the Siu Mai and Har Kao ?

At least 2 full size prawns inside with pork, yum yum

I love the eggtarts too, layers of crispy skin and smooth milky fillngs, good ah !

Pork ribs taste was ok but mostly bones, I felt like gnawing bones when eating this dish ("T_T)

Chicken feet with black pepper sauce was ok lah ! Nothing special...

Ok, here comes the not so delicious part :

WARNING !

Porridge has lots of 料, century egg, chunks of chicken meat but I don't find it nice, I still prefer the porridge at 超全 Apollo...

芋角, fillings were too slimy, urghhh, nearly couldn't finish it ( big no no)

四季豆 with sambal, insignificant, can just skip this dish.

Total bill including tea was around RM 35 for 4 person, work visiting due to

新味不同 Rasa Lain at Bercham, Ipoh

原来 there are two 味不同 Rasa Lain shops at Bercham --> the old shop (No. 69, Persiaran Medan Bercham 2) and the new shop near Public Bank. The old shop was introduced by Axian before, but I was told the shop owner has attitude problem and need to wait for at least 1 hour if I were to dine there. It was true, I went there to take a look and many tables of customers were still waiting to be served =(

Previously I already reserved crab at the NEW Rasa Lain shop, No. 72 near Public Bank. So we left the old shop with the bald guy owner, and moved on to 新味不同.

And we made the right decision ! Even though the new Rasa Lain was a small shop, and has less customers, but the tauke was very friendly, service was good and food portion was really big ! Competition, I guess =)

We didn't have to wait for long, the food just kept coming !

Shop owner was from Sungai Petani, he still can speak hokkien even though he has been staying in Ipoh for more than 20 years. The old shop was run by one of the relatives.
We had such a hearty meal at a reasonable price, 6 of us eat so much crab and fish, whole meal only cost us RM 120, thank you uncle !

Bidor Pun Chun Duck Thigh Noodle

Duck thigh noodle 鸭腿面 at Pun Chun kopitiam, Bidor, Perak is already famous without me further promoting it. Once I stepped into the shop and stared at the menu board on the wall, written in chinese wordings, the tauke soh already asked me "鸭腿面? 几碗?＂

There were other types of noodles with char siu, ribs, curry, wantan.... around 20 types of combination.
　
Duck thigh noodle 鸭腿面 ( RM 6)

Yup, in Bidor the duck thigh noodle comes with wantan mee, not misua. I like the soup because it has a stronger taste of longan 龙眼　than the usual herbal duck thigh noodle in Penang. Duck thigh was thoroughly cooked until the bone crumbled at the slightest pressure !

KL makan2 trip: Yut Kee镒记Hainanese Roti Babi and Marble Cake at Pudu

Yut Kee has been around for many years, I love the marble cake so much until I bought 1 whole box back (RM14). The Swiss roll was spreaded with Kaya but not sweet at all, slightly dry so it suits you if you are the health conscious type.

See the lovely cakes there, waiting for meeeee....they may look simple but the marble cake really tasted so good *wiping mouth*

The menu and price list are on display on a big white board. Usually whenever I visit a Hainanese restaurent/kopitiam I will order chicken chop, but no, not today, the Roti Babi here has been so famous for decades !

Very comfortable for a coffe shop, no stuffy/poor ventilations, well lighted, with marble tables and old style wooden chairs.

See this guy? maybe you've seen articles of him on the newspaper.

Here comes the Roti Babi, err...how come it looks like fish n chips?

The pork was shredded and tasted like TUNA ! It was good, but I still prefer the marble cake =P
We went to the kitchen to take a look but didn't snap any photos, the place was clean and well organized.

There are many old style ornaments/ furnitures around the coffee shop, 古董 makes u feel like sipping coffee while slipping into memory lane.

Very old fan and radio on display...nostalgic place...

We missed the roast pork/char siew because they are only taking orders for CNY for the time being, so...

Chee Cheong Fun in KL is common to eat with curry but have u eaten with dried prawns(hebi) before ??
Magnificent ! Either with curry... or...

With the normal sweet black paste, both version also delicious but I will rank the curry + hebi higher =P

The 炸大肠 fried pork intestine also yummy at Yap Hup Kee, along with fried beancurd sheets and dumpling(wantan).

We also ordered "jiu hu"

Matched with a glass of barley mixed with seasoned lime (金秸)

There are lots of stuff at add if u would like to eat more or with different combinations (lo shee fun, etc...) Just pick what u want and they'll cook it for u.

KL makan2 trip: Big Head Prawn and Kam Heong Hokkien Mee at 大三元 Restaurent Triple Round, Bukit Beruntung

We purposely drove all the way to this restaurent to try out their signature dishes --> Triple Round, a hidden gem at Bukit Beruntung, Rawang.
2 big head prawns sliced into halves, then cooked with their special sauce, I can only recognise the slight chinese herbs Dang Gui fragrant and brown sugar. *Note : market price is around RM45 for 2 big head prawns (size of your palm + fingers), if u are not willing to pay for good food, then u rugi lah *

Tauke Soh ran out of pork ribs (at 9pm, just imagine how good their business were !) so they improvised with pork chunks, still tasted good with creamy mushroom+pepper sauce, RM 12
I can finish the whole bowl of rice with this dish =P

Kam Heong Hokkien Mee, in KL Hokkien Mee is fat noodle 大碌面, but 1st time I ate this fat noodle with Kam Heong sauce, some squid and vegi, we scraped the plate clean !

Hot Sunday afternoon, what to have for lunch? I went to the same place I had the Kulim Laksa at BM. Even though it's made up of zink atap roof, the place was shaded.

I ordered the dry koay teow, smallest RM6 comes with a bowl of beef soup and big portion of koay teow with bean sprouts.

Beef slices and some spare parts are the standard serving.

Beef meatballs were delicious, 3 for RM1~*

Laksa Kelang Lama from Kulim has branch at Bukit Mertajam

Penangites no need to travel all the way to Kulim, there's one branch at Bukit Mertajam (near to the duck egg char koay teow at night, near Convent BM), situated in a foodcourt also famous for beef kuey teow, wow, so many things to eat, but I saved the beef kuey teow for next time as laska has higher priority to me =P

This was the big bowl, RM3.00 with lots of laksa noodle, the fish has been grated/blended until it's all fluffy (yeah, i meant fluffy), there were no chunks of fish like other penang laksa, also no gulai hua, no pineapple shreds...

The crackers are placed in a big tupperware placed on each table, 20 cents each,they based on trust because there's no recording of how many pieces u took.

Refill of laksa soup is FOC, unlike the stall in front of PCGHS (peng hua) at Jln Gottlieb which asked for $ if u want to top up your laksa soup, stingy !

Raja Uda Tom Yam porridge and noodle

I've never tried tomyam porridge before. We ordered a big bowl of tom yam porridge to share among 3 person, ours with fish, meatball, mushroom, sotong ball costed RM7 (depending on what you picked), but the price is quite reasonable. The pic is after we scooped one bowl out, can't wait to taste some after waiting, lol~*

This kopitiam has absolutely NO SIGNBOARD or shop name on display! So unless you've been there, you'll juz have to look out for a shop beside these signboards with only ONE stall and lots of customers waiting.

There are lots of stuff for customers to select, then they will cook it with your tomyam porridge or noodle.

Look at the stacks of orders pending, these are only half of the orders ! The mountain of orders kept increasing until they ran out of place to put the orders...

Decoration of the kopitiam is very minimal, but everyone doesn't mind as long as there is good food, so we also sat there for at least half an hour...

Hailam food with Malay customers !

I was shocked to see this Hailam kopitiam full with customers during dinner time, and more than 70% of the customers were Malay!
Lina told me Sin Bee Chew has been around for many many years, serving hainanese food. So we decided to wait for the sake of good food =P but surprisingly it didn't take very long to be served, definitely good service.

Even the menu is written on a huge whiteboard in English along with the price, western food they only serve Chicken Chop, others are zhu char dishes. F means Fried, S = Soup

Since this is Hailam food kopitiam, i ordered Hokkien Char, the sambal was SIMPLY SUPERB ! We asked them to refill the sambal a couple of times =P

But the best was the chicken chop (RM 8), of course ! Super big portion, from drumstick up till the wing, biggest chicken chop I've eaten, with very thick tomato taste, even the green peas and thinly sliced carrot were delicious, I was so happy when I ate this.
*Caution* : Gals, u might want to find someone to share this with you, because the portion was really really big (i mean it) if u plan to finish the whole plate including chips. We even went to shopping malls to walk around after dinner *hilarious*

Here is the reassurance to our Malay friends, certificates and signboard from supplier to ensure food here is halal.

Operating Hours: 11:30am-2:50pm, 4:30-8:50pm (closes early compared to normal kopitiam)
Closed on public holidays and Sundays (and obviously they dun give a damn about not earning $ !!!)

The newest place to hangout in Penang is Straits Quay from E&O Property, facing the sea. The biggest X'mas tree in Pg greets you at the main entrance of the mall.

The interior of Straits Quay, I must say the indoor carparks are quite small and the turnings are pretty narrow.

The view from seafront restaurents, at night there'll be light shining from the tower towards the sky.

Fortunately we went there around 6:30pm, at 7:30-9:00pm the place was full ! The colours inside Bella Marino really suits the upcoming X'mas ^^

I didn't manage to snap photo of all the dishes, mainly due to the lights were dimmed and there were 11 of us dining and I might end up not getting a bite if I were busy taking pics, lol ~*
Seafood pizza, of coz, how could I miss this... we also had the Quartro pizza with 4 different toppings(beef pepperoni, mushroom, chicken, tuna) was not as great as this.

Pasta, risotto, spaghetti... bring me all the calories !

Then wash it down with fruity drinks, at first I wanted to order Grappa(RM16) but they are not available yet, awww...We were too full to order Tiramisu or Gelato, maybe next time.

We dined there for around 3 hours ! Chatting and enjoying our food slowly.

Overall, 11of us ordered 6 pasta, 3 risotto and 4 pizzas, including drinks the total bill did not exceed RM400, the price was quite reasonable.

OR LANG rojak at BM has moved !

Went to eat Zhu Char at BM but had a surprise to see famous OR LANG rojak has moved from the old location to the road next to it, kopitiam name is Restoran Lau Yew (老友). It's impossible to miss the kopitiam because there's a big yellow banner (in chinese), stating OR LANG rojak started their business there on 3rd Dec 2010.

From there, we moved on to the road on the left (previous location or OR LANG rojak) and ate zhu char at this restaurent.

Due to the place was full even though it was already 1:30pm, we had to sit at the shop opposite it. Thus we discovered there's a new stall of Steamed Cup Rice which just moved there last month (dunno from where). Every plate of rice was steamed individually then covered with pieces of Char Xiu and grilled chicken, then topped with scoops of hot gravy, IT LOOKED SIMPLY MOUTH WATERING !

But we already had problem finishing the zhu char dishes, the portion was too much for the few of us. (sorry I didn't snap pics of the dishes bcoz I was too hungry, late lunch mah, pls forgive me...)

Maybe you can go try out the Steamed Cup Rice and tell me, but I'm 99% sure it taste good! And the price was shown as RM2.50 only !!!

Famous Ayu Mee Udang at Teluk Kumbar

I'm a total idiot who doesn't have any sense of direction at all, if I wasn't armed with GPS and the coordinates of Ayu mee udang googled from the net, I won't dare to ask Ngo and Pan to go hunt for mee udang together =P

There are many mee udang shops all over the same area and they are pretty near to each other, Ilyana's and Salwa's are at the left turning, Ayu's and Omar's are on the right turning right after Klinik Kesihatan and Police Station (refer to the map at bottom of this post).

Ayu mee udang is operated by owner Zauyah binti Haji Abu Hassan since year 1994, I was told a few years ago the price per plate was RM8, now increased to RM12, still acceptable, I've seen some tagged as RM15 but with smaller prawns ("-_-)
I called up Encik Noordin the day before, in case they are closed on Awal Muharam, but they weren't, and Encik Noordin was very friendly and speaks fluent english on the phone.

Err...Ngo/Pan asked me why the name is Ayu on the outside, but Cantik inside, I have no idea but the ladies there are pretty cantik, wakaka~*

The environment is very peaceful and clean, no house fly at all.

There weren't many customers due to drizzling and it was around 3pm, off peak hours so they served us quite quickly.

Hold on, where were the huge prawns I've heard before ??
Nahh...the prawns were hidden at the bottom of the bowl !

Pan helped me to dig out the huge prawns from the pile of *Nasi Goreng Udang* ^^

The aroma of both mee udang and nasi goreng smells very appetizing, taste was delicious too. Ayu also serves mee goreng, kuey teow, bihun etc.

However, the mee/nasi portion is not very big, no wonder a friendly Malay customer ordered 2 plates for himself ^^

Annathai-Kitchen at Pulau Tikus

Info update on Feb 2012: Annathai only provide ala carte dishes now, no more economy rice style or breakfast.

Ok...finally my turn to blog about Annathai, last minute decided to check out the place. I reached around 2:40pm but they were still open =P

There were quite a few dishes still available outside (in economy rice style), including Thai otak-otak and Thai Laksa. I just tell the sweet smiling Thai speaking girl (she also speaks simple English) which dish I want, she served the dishes in separate bowls/plates along with fragrant rice.

Frankly my Thai is so bad, until I have to check Sam's FB to confirm the names of these Thai dishes, lol

my favourite--> KHAO NIAO KHA NOON, nangka with glutinous rice and coconut milk mousse with sprinkle of sesame, mmmMMmmmm

LAB MOO SUB, spicy minced pork with onions, mint, chili, laksa flower and lemongrass

Ooooo...spicy, I quickly put out the fire in my mouth with NAM DAENG, Red Salak Syrup

here comes the delicious curry chicken with bamboo shoots, KANG NOR-MAI GAI. I didn't know those were bamboo shoots when I order, I thought those sticks were potatos, hahaha, but the chicken was seriously good ! but I'm not a big fan of bamboo shoots though, left little bit in the bowl =P

太普通啦！　吃这个啦，迟去就卖完了－－＞帝皇包 Emperor's Pao ！！！

卖相看起来一坨地,　若不是那边做工的老Ah Mah 介绍,　我都不知道有这个好料．　一大颗松软的包，馅料竟然是Lor Mai Kai with mushroom and chicken chunks, simply delicious, the glutinous rice was cooked to perfection inside the huge pao.

Portion is enough for 3 person if u still want to eat the delicious porridge and Wu Kok (crispy yam) there, those are nice too ^^

This shop has been around for many years, dim sum reasonably priced too, after 5 of us finished eating a lot of dim sum, bill was around RM52.

Water Lantern Festival - Loy Krathong 21 Nov 2010

Water Lantern Festival will be held at Wat Chaiyamankalarm thai temple, famous for the inclined buddha 睡佛, on 21st Nov 2010, which the flower lanterns will be carried in a procession to Gurney, then placed into the sea.

Prices of the flower lanterns differ depending on the size, RM12 (s), RM20(m), RM60 (L).

It is believed by letting these water lanterns into the sea, the bad luck will be sent away along into the sea.

My dad carrying my niece around the colourful flowers, she wasn't enjoying due to hiccups, ahaha~*

Without the adults noticing, Little Boss already stick the flag with the name of his family onto the chosen flower (of HIS choice), and thus it has been decided, the pink flower it is, lol

Anybody interested can visit this thai temple and choose your favourite flower lantern, on 21st Nov, you can choose to place the flower into the sea yourself, or the representatives from the temple will help to send your troubles away into the sea.

Air Itam Market Curry Mee on the Floor !

Curry mee cooked with charcoal, and the old Ah Mah puts all her bowls and utensils on the floor, where else can you find this except Air Itam curry mee stall? famous for many many years, old Ah Mah has been selling curry mee as far as I remember since I was a kid.

It was still as delicious as ever ! I think it was RM 2.50 per bowl ( not very sure because I didn't pay for it =P), the soup is clear and you can barely taste any santan, there were lots of 鱿鱼丝 and "dao pok", plus lots of spicy sambal chilli, my tongue was hanging out when I nearly finish my bowl because it was so spicy but I loved it !

Again, where to eat during lunch? we were driving around the shoplots at Sunway Tunas (near to Pantai Hospital), when we saw a new restaurant with a name that sounds like a bus agency, lol.
We quickly went in to escape the hot scorching sun, phew~*

Display was very neat and tidy, only a few round tables are available inside this restaurant.

There was only one more table occupied when we went there, so the dishes were served to us pretty quickly. I like this dish, they gave a big serving of the minced meat gravy, yummy~*

Chang Loong Homemade Beancurd 长龙招牌豆腐

猪肉腩煲 Ermm...can't really see the pork chunks because there weren't many =P

铁板黑胡椒牛肉 Sizzling black pepper beef, this was delicious, beef was tender and tasty, we only ordered small portion.

马来风光 Sambal Kangkung was a very big plate

Kerabu, we were a bit surprised at the amount of Tang Hoon served in this dish, the Tang Hoon was soaked with very sour juices, taste good with squid.

Service was excellent, the waitress even came over to ask whether we like our dishes.

东海渔村 Pinang Fishermans' Wharf

NO, this is not Yao Zhar Guai to eat with porridge, your eyes are playing tricks with u, these are garlic pork ribs ! Length of your forearm ! We stared at this dish for 5 mins then only asked the waitress to pass this back to the kitchen to be chopped into 3 portions per rib, unbelievable, were we supposed to hold the bone and rip the meat off like a cavemen/cavewomen?
But the garlic ribs were simply delicious and 1 big piece was enough for each of us.

Found only at Pinang Fisherman's Wharf inside Sunshine Square (was that 2nd floor?right beside the indoor carpark). This newly opened restaurant bears a similar name to the Fisherman's Wharf opposite Motorola, but they don't serve buffet lunch here ( which is fine with me, the RM 1X.XX buffet lunch at the FW opposite Motorola sucks).
We went to Sunshine Square for lunch during weekdays when this restaurant was less than 1 month old, based on good comments from Sunny's wife and the outlook seems clean and bright, we went in to give it a try. Although there weren't many tables occupied, the service was good, waitress kept refilling our tea and there's always someone around if you need anything. A++

Other than garlic pork ribs, we also ordered spring onion+ginger fish 姜葱鱼片, a more common dish =P the dish was alright

This was one of the signature dish too, fried seaweed with tofu 忘记中文菜名叫什么了,总之有炸紫菜加豆腐, 咸咸脆脆又软软地,非常下饭 slightly salty, but the crispy fried seaweed matches very well with the soft tofu.

腐乳炒杂菜 Fu Yu Mixed Vege, not too impressing at this restaurant, forgettable dish

The bill for total 5 of us was around RM91, reasonable for a restaurant with comfortable environment, if you have Sunshine card, they will give~15% discount to you (but must show them your card when you place your order)

Restoran 5 Utara- Superb Thai Food

Wondering where to find tom yam with such huge prawns?

Restaurent 5 Utara serves one of the best Thai food I love at a reasonable price ! Even the sambal belacan smells delicious *slurp*
Followed by a picture of the prawn tomyam soup with the huge prawns, mushrooms and other goodies hidden inside.

Otak-otak was different from any of those restaurents I've been to before, the taste was really unique, satisfying dish with lots of squid and fish chunks.

Asparagus, another dish which made me feel hungry right now

A pot of rice which goes perfectly well with all the spicey/sweet/sour dishes, yummy !

I think the location is at Kubang Pasu because I can see this signboard nearby.

I rate the food as 5 stars quality ! Love every dish !

Chicago Rib House

Beef ribs with chips and coleslaw, mmm...mmm....tender and juicy (around RM35)

Chicago Rib House was at Autocity, finally there is an outlet at Gurney Plaza (beside DOME cafe). We went there for lunch, there were many customers inside, most of the tables were waiting to be served, we quickly placed our order and started our wait by watching replay of World Cup on the TV, goal !!!

Full rack of pork ribs with mashed potato and baked potato(with cream cheese), what a huge slab ! enough for two person, the price of full rack(around RM45) was only a little bit more compared to half rack, definitely more worth it =P
However, the taste is a bit oily and it was cold when served ("-_-) so much for all the waiting

Last of all, mini mud pie but the mud pie was WAY TOO SWEET ! Definitely mud pie from TGIF beats Chicago Rib House, CRH KO !

RUYI Fried Fish Bihun Soup

RUYI fried fish bihun soup was reasonably priced and environment was very clean. There is only one stall at RUYI.

They posted the offday-dates and pricing list on the stall, there are plain soup or tomyam for your own liking.

I ordered fried fish + mantis prawn with fat bihun (they gave around 4 pieces each), only RM6 per bowl. good !

Only down side is the drink served was tasteless, looked like leng teh but tasted like plain water, lol~*

Location: Goh Diao Lor (in hokkien),on coastal highway, if you are coming from Weld Quey's direction, turn left when u see the first beige colour flat on your left, then turn left immediately, corner shop is mamak stall followed by optical shop with a big frog logo, RUYI is just a few shops away.

Balik Pulau 1 day LAKSA and Food Hunt

Note:* all the laksa in this blog are minus the vegi due to Lawrence has vegi-phobia =P

First laksa of the day, we reached Balik Pulau new market at noon (different stalls there sell the same laksa, because they get the soup from the same source), the taste is a bit watery, not the best I've had.

After enjoying the freshly blended nutmeg (buah pala) drink from a nearly stall and also purchased 4KG of fresh nutmeg fruit from the market, we move on to the next laksa ---> Kim SIAM laksa at another location (unfortunately I didn't bring GPS with me, I only knew this stall is situated inside a coffee shop) .

The stall looks very clean and tidy.

Looks good right? The taste was like otak-otak, haha, not bad compared to the stall located at Pulau Tikus market at night, this Kim Siam Laksa serves more fish shreds.

Next stop was Ai Cheng's house for steamed and curry crab. 1kg of fresh crab costed RM12 only, the shell was thin and easy to crack. Thanks to aunty for cooking the 3 plates of crab for us, THANK YOU !

After resting for a while from the crab feast, we drove ourselves to try the Malay style laksa buffet, lol. Other than this stall, there is another branch nearby.

What are they doing?! Hehe, the specialty of this Malay laksa stall is you have to prepare your own bowl of laksa !!! Cut your own vegi (timun, onion, chilli padi...), scoop your own noodles... pour your own laksa soup.

See, the fat laksa noodle was already cooked and placed in a huge basket for you to take as much as you like (reminded me of the Pizza Hut salad, you can put as much as you like as long as it fits in the salad bowl given to u, lol). The guy in red shirt was cutting timun for himself.

Boiling laksa soup, you can refill your bowl with laksa soup as much as you like too, isn't it great ?!

This is the bowl of laksa created by Lawrence for his friend, don't be shocked by the amount of chilli padi seen from this pic, those were not spicy at all, u can actually chew the chilli padi and not shed a tear, lol, all for RM 1 per bowl !

Next on the agenda was Pulau Betong beach and paddy field sigtseeing (to be published in a separate post, since that doesn't fit the title of this post). Last of all, we bought the delicious crispy fried chicken from a roadside stall called Yong Li (a short distance from the wind cock compass at Balik Pulau town center).

Fried on request, smelled great, tasted crunchy and absolutely delicious ! Better than KFC too ! RM2.70 per piece. They also gave chilli sauce along with the fried chicken.

Unfortunately the pasembur and satay stall at the new market were closed (Saturday), so we'll have to wait till next time to taste those, slurpppp

This is the 1st time I've eaten so many types of laksa in 1 day, and I did not have stomachache by the end of the day too, hehe, enjoyable day ~*

Ristorante Bella Italia at Belissa Row

PIZZA TONNO E CIPOLLE : Margherita with tuna and onions,
Excellent with very thin crust, still nice when it became cold *chew* chew* chew*, lots of squid + tuna + onions as toppings, much better than Dominoes (that is fast food lah)

Hmmm...the photo was not very clear, because the restaurent was very dimly lit, felt quite sleepy after sitting there for quite a while...zzzz...

A small, homelike Italian restaurent located at Belissa Row, Pulau Tikus, Penang (same row as Haagen Daaz)

I went there around 7pm, a lot of angmohs there. There are some nice paintings hanging on the wall too.

They serve Appetizers, Soup, Salad, Pasta, Pizzas, Fish/Meat, Desserts and Drinks, at first I thought of trying Grappa, but heard it contains around 35-50% of alcohol and doesn't taste very smooth =P so no order from me.

Lang Sae Lee at Tan Jetty

We reached Tan jetty around 6:30pm on a Sunday, parked just by the roadside (opposite the famous curry mee/laksa/Oh Kio), at the entrance of Tan jetty (after that we realized actually we can drive a little bit further and turn left into the open space for parking). Then we just walked into the lane, you will see Lang Sae Lee at the end of the lane.

As you can see, there are very limited tables available, because this is actually the porch of their house.

Siam laksa was sold out, the taukeh was kind enough to put together half a plate for a customer who came from somewhere far away to try.

The popular drink there, ribena + plum.

Ok, their menu is only photographs of the dishes with the name and price scribble at the bottom. Let's compare whether the real dish looks the same as the photo, hehe.

First dish, Fried Rice with Salted Fish - RM 5

Taste ok, would have been even better if there were more salted fish.

2nd dish, Boneless Stuffed Chicken Wing - RM 4 each

Hmm...looks too fair, were they cooked deep inside? Fortunately, yes! Very easy to feel full after eating these stuffed chicken wings.

3rd dish, Fried Enoki - RM5, taste was ok, not crunchy at all, just a soft coating of flour batter.

4th dish, Tomyam Clear Soup - RM8

There was only one prawn, a slice of fish and some more mushrooms. Taste was ok, sour enough, spicy enough.

Last dish, Fried Mantis Prawn with Sauce - RM 10

The portion of the actual dish was quite small (it looked like a lot in this pic because that was actually not true, haha), and there was this "fishy" taste, 腥味, I don't like this =(

Caution * : this is a homely business, don't expect for restaurent type of services, you will need to wait for a long time for the dishes to be served, and when we asked the taukeh to dapao the tomyam soup for us, he actually took the plastic bag used for Siam Laksa (just right beside our table, but the plastic bag was actually too small) then pour the whole thing inside the plastic bag at our table, end up by dirtying the table and also the floor because the soup was dripping along the plastic bag ("-_-) he just wanted to get it done asap in order to go handle other stuff. You must wait for Mdm Lee to place orders (because she will write in Thai) and you must wait for her to calculate the bill too. Everything was not systematic.

If you don't demand for delicious thai food, this place is acceptable, and the seaview is a plus. No air-con available, of course ^^

Farlim Shell Station Laksa

I have never tried this stall of laksa before, although more than once people told me the laksa is nice. So I decided to drive all the way to farlim to try it out. The shop was very easy to find, located at the row of shoplots just at the back of Farlim Pizza Hut. You can see the big signboard,

This is the laksa stall, there is another stall on the right, selling bread with bakwa/bakhu (meat floss)/ ham/sausages..

So this is the way the laksa should look like...with huge chunks of fish, let's see whether it looks the same when they serve us the real laksa, hehehe

"Aunty ! One big with no vegi, one small ka liao ai !"

I think these raw fish are for display only, since they never marinate or do anything with it....hmmm...

Ta-daaa ~! The display looks good, right? However the taste was ok, not too great, I think the old uncle's stall at jetty roadside (beside the Oh-kio and Tua pui curry mee is more delicious)

Nyonya chicken pie at the foodcourt/market behind Vistana Hotel,it was really big, forgot how much it cost, around RM3.50 I guess...taste was very different from the usual western style chicken pie, the Nyonya aunty at the stall will give a packet of black vinegar sauce to match with the chicken pie.

Took this photo back in Feb 2010 during a relative's wedding dinner at CRC, it is very seldom I can take photo with a few aunts at the same time, my mom was standing beside me, wearing the light purple cheongsam, the lady beside her in yellow was my cousin (i think...), the other two ladies in front are two of my aunts, oops, one of my aunt closed her eyes during the photo taking, let's look at the other photo...

Brought my dad to Chok Dee Thai for dinner, I wanted to dine at this restaurent since before CNY, but during CNY they didn't serve ala carte, so I finally visited this place after a few months of waiting, lol

The restaurent is long in shape and relatively narrow, with a big water lily painting on the wall

The well-dressed aunty who took our order was polite and speaks both english + hokkien. The 1st dish served was Otak-otak, I will never miss that ! Fabulous, rich in taste and plenty of fish chunks

Seafood Tomyam, we chose the "medium" spicyness, just nice with fish + sotong + 金针菇 + spices, a lot of soup though for 2 person

One of the best dish of the night, Fried Crispy Kangkung, 1st time I eat this dish in shredded form dipped in seasoned flour, topped with tiny prawns,we scrapped the plate clean !

Pandan chicken, tender + juicy, must dip into the sweet-sour sauce

Fried fish cakes, 4 small pieces with spices & tiny prawns inside, both of us were so full by then, but we still stuffed everything in, must not waste good food, right? LOL

I like all the dishes !
My dad was very satisfied with the dishes and ate a lot that night, I'm happy he likes Chok Dee Thai ^_^

甜园opposite IOI Mall, the most chinese students working as waiters/waitresses I've seen at a dimsum shop.

We really couldn't understand the long queue, maybe eat dimsum and yamcha in the morning is a must in KL, we saw other shops also have people queuing up at entrance.

叉烧芋泥角 (char siew with yam), smallest I've eaten

荷叶饭 (steamed glutinous rice in lotus leaf),quite plain

Overall so-so only and slightly oily, considered disappointed after tasting the food.

We were around Bukit Jalil area when started searching for a place to have lunch,saw this name on our GPS, Fast Food Fish Head ?! doesn't sound very tempting, but I felt like having a proper Chinese meal with rice, and fish is always welcome.

The place was pretty crowded, people are eating lunch on a Friday and we went to squeeze with them. No air-con in this shop, but lots of dish photos on the walls and also the price of each type of fish per 100g is written boldly on the wall, they are pretty honest with their customers.

Turned out this restaurent not only sells fish head, their main dish is actually all types of river fish

This is my non-breeded-caught-from-the-wild-super-delicious fish,野生河顺壳 (RM 85, $ka ching$, there's a reason it is number 2 on the price board), simply delicious, VERY fresh ! worth it, yum yum

This is their special home-made taufu, taste very very soft, with minced meat and soy sauce, delicious and best eaten with steamy rice,slurrrpp

Went to try out Noodle House at D'Piazza during lunch, this is a newly opened restaurent with air-con, good place to hangout in this hot weather, LOL~*
Ordered cold 泡参 drink,

However, they are so new until they only serve 2 type of noodles, noodles in Bah Kut Teh soup or plain soup (清汤). The waitress claimed the kuoy teow in bah kut teh soup is their specialty so I tried the beef kuoy teow.

The soup smelled very nice and tasted delicious, kuoy teow soft and smooth, it was quite a good match. A few chunks of beef and some chewy slices which I coudn't identify, probably pig lungs??猪肺片?

Something different for lunch, will visit this place again after they add more dishes and come up with a menu =P

There was only 3 stalls there, this fish head beehoon, one Fried Lor Bak stall and another stall serving drinks. There were plenty of customers when I went to this place at night. You can just park across the road near Tan Mark Bookstore and walk over. On the price signboard it was written fish head beehoon RM5, RM 8. We ordered fish head beehoon with extra meat balls, prawns (and fried fish I think) for two person. We had 马蹄水 while waiting.

The big bowl of beehoon looks mouth-watering, right? I couldn't even see the beehoon from the top! There were 3 huge prawns and the smells delicious, the slight disappointment was the soup didn't had much taste. Portion was just nice for 2.

However...the price was a bit shocking, total of RM 31 for this bowl of fish head beehoon !!!
I only expected around RM 24 ("-_-), I heard the price from another table also around RM 28, maybe we should just stick to the normal fish head beehoon priced at RM 5 or RM 8.
Guess that's the risk for ordering extra top-ups during our 1st visit =P

怀乡居Hainanese Delights at 1926 Hotel

I had been watching drama non-stop since last night until this morning, and had to find a place to eat lunch alone (sounds like the life of a lonely old hag huh?) Yin Kooi, this was the Hainanese restaurent you voted for our primary school gathering, I like the feel of this place =)

There were ample parking lots in front and beside of Hotel 1926. Once you enter the main entrance of the hotel, turn right, you will see the Hainanese Delights.

This is the staircase just beside the restaurent, the environment feels quite old style yet comfortable.

I was welcomed by a pretty + classy aunty in her 40s, and the owner of this place was also there, chatting with the customers about the wi-fi he installed etc. Once seated, I was served with some salted peanuts. The mixed fruit drink I ordered was a bit small, RM 4.50 for orange + apple.

Here comes the starter, Hainanese style Spring Roll - RM 6. It was quite big and fully stuffed. You can see the crab meat in the photos. Tasted fresh/light/crispy ---> yummy.

This was the nicest Macaroni Pie I've eaten in Colonial style with meringue ! It was freshly baked, HUGE (around 27cm in length, 12cm width), meringue was soft & fluffy, with lots of non-cheesy macaroni, slices of chicken, 2 types of mushrooms, and slices of carrot, excellent !

The classy aunty apologized to me, saying the waiter should have informed me the Macaroni pie was quite big (only 1 size) when I placed the order, but I can "dapao" the rest back if i couldn't finish it. Of course I did dapao, I could only finish around 40% of the macaroni pie even though I loved it !

The service was good (waiters were smiling and classy aunty volunteered to refill my glass but I was too full already), NO SERVICE TAX was charged! Only the 5% government tax was included in my bill. The old style atmosphere was comfortable with air-con, food was delicious, parking was easy, I'm definitely coming back to this place ^_^

I visited the more than 50 years Hai Onn restaurent(according to my dad) after work for dinner and I was smart enough to place my order with Hai Onn by phone before I visited them at night, which proven to be a very smart move indeed, hehe.

The old restaurent was pretty deserted when we arrived at 6:30pm, only 2 more tables were occupied and they were still waiting to be served. Our table was already waiting for us, the friendly aunty immediately served us with Hokkien Char, Choon Piah and Roti Babi

My dad bumped into his old principal-friend with his wife, they were complaining to us about waiting for 1 hour and still no food was served. Right at that moment our food came and we were happily chewing away with our mouths full while my dad's principal friend watched on with a tummy full of dissatisfaction, buahaha~* they left asap when we were served with our 4th dish, famous hainanese style chicken chop =P

Last dish was curry fish, you can choose how many pieces of fish you want

Overall the meal was quite nice at an affordable price (RM3X only), and aunty was very friendly ^0^

DAORAE Korean BBQ at Tg.Tokong

DAORAE at Bkt Jambul has been quite a hit since Penang Tua Pui wrote about them, I've been quite interested to try out their dishes. Since there was a new bungalow-style branch at Tg.Tokong and DAORAE claimed that is the biggest branch in Malaysia (newly opened on Nov 17th, 2009), I made a booking to try it out with my friend.

I reached DAORAE Tg.Tokong (beside Petronas near Island Plaza) at 7:30pm, as it was a bungalow, there was ample parking lots and there's even a polite uncle as the jokey. I was directed to park right in front of the restaurent entrance, haha =P

There's no photo of the other areas in this restaurent except the tatami style dining area because the moment I walked-in or walked around, people started bowing and greeting me, so paiseh...

This is the tatami dining area, I liked the fact that the tables were not packed closely together just to cater for more headcount, they emptied the space beneath the table and I was able to sit comfortably with my legs stretched (no need to sit with legs crossed or kneeling, lol)

I was led to a table at the corner of the room and there was one unit of air-con just behind me, perfect ! There was another section of dining area with normal dining tables but tatami just feels right when eating Korean BBQ, lol.

As usual Korean BBQ restaurent, we were given a bottle of tea (can refill)

After we placed our orders, we were served with seaweed soup and all the tit-bits (by default, refillable). Err..I have to say I don't really like the black-hard beans...or kimchi...no tofu was served, fortunately I still have big bean sprouts which has always been my favourite.

Steamed egg also by default...

Aahh..here comes the big slab of herbal pork seasoned with a little ginseng, don't worry, they BBQ it and cut into small pieces for us.

You are supposed to take a piece of vegi, dip the BBQ-ed meat into sesame oil, put onto the vegi, take a slice of garlic and dip into the spicy sauce before adding it onto the meat, finally add some spring onion on top before wrapping the whole thing up in the vegi and stuff it into your mouth.
The taste ? well... not much ginseng taste, was ok...

Btw, they were very "kut lat" in changing the metal plate used for BBQ, they changed twice for every type of meat o_O

Here comes the huge slabs of raw eel with some ginger sprinkled on top. We were told the portion is very small (in the end it was indeed small, but still too much for us)

The waiter brushed some seasoning sauce onto the eel until the fish is cooked.

Frankly it did not turn out as good looking as the picture on the menu, and the eel did not taste so well too, we were quite disappointed.

This was the only lamb dish we could find on the menu ( my friend doesn't eat beef (T=T) no premium beef for me), the taste was ok but I won't say "excellent"

Dolsot Bibim-bap, I must order this everytime i eat Korean food, I waited for the waiter to stir it for me but he left after cooking the meat on the charcoal stove. Oh? I'm supposed to do it myself, I think the other Korean BBQ restaurent nearby ->Korean Palace pampered me too much, lol.

You must mix the red paste into the rice when you stir. The taste was good.

Seafood pancake, there was some squid inside (not sure what else) with lots of vegi, i liked the taste ^=^

Last but not least, 1 slice of watermelon and cold barley drink for each of us (by default). The barley drink has stronger ginger taste than other korean restaurent I've tasted, my friend said it was the best dish in that meal ("=_=) that was not a compliment, right?

The service was excellent, dinner at DAORAE Tg.Tokong costed around Rm169, which I consider reasonable.

Overall, I think i like Korean Palace better, the meat dishes there has better taste compared to DAORAE Tg.Tokong. Plus Korean Palace is having a 20% discount promotion now, refer to my other article about Korean Palace if you wish to know more. Probably DAORAE invested more $ in advertising than Korean Palace.

I knew they have a steamboat restaurent near DAORAE Tg.Tokong, Penang, but I've never been there (i'm not a huge fan of those RM1X or RM2X steamboat with lots of fish balls). Here is another restaurent belonging to the same group but not steamboat, HK style at 3rd floor Gurney Plaza new wing.

Couldn't think of a place to dine so we went there at 9:30pm after shopping spree, lol

Quite spacious, suitable dining place for families.

Muar Food Hunt Part II: Tanjung Crab Feast

Whoa, where is this dark place? Tang brought us there after dinner to try some famous TANJUNG crab! This place is operated by Chinese and is actually open until 4am, wow~*

Old open-air restaurent...Quite deserted but some customers came after a while.

Slurp slurp, the Kam Hiong crab was served pretty quickly, just look at the size of the clamp ?! Huge, definitely huge. very fresh... I thought that was the only dish Tang ordered for us, but I was wrong!

After some smoke coming out from the kitchen, another big plate of crab was placed in front of us, it didn't look very pretty but the taste was so unique !!! The gravy was some kind of paste which contains "serai" (used for cooking curry), quite spicy too, delicious (thumbs up!), I have never tasted crab cooked like this before, very new to me.

Candid camera, yes your eyes are not playing tricks with you, Yeo was eating crab with fork n spoon ("=_=) fortunately he gave up and used his bare hands instead, otherwise there might be crab falling onto the floor =P

Ooo...suddenly everyone looks so composed and proper, they are aware of me snapping photos lah...normally where got so serious... LOL~* nice "crabbing" with you guys

Nasi Ayam Periuk Besar? 大锅鸡? We passed by this shop a couple of times on our way to Homes Cafe. I was quite surprised after googling on the net, this Nasi Ayam Periuk Besar turned out to be a franchise with outlets at Komtar Walk, Kelana Jaya and Cheras owned by Monrods Sdn Bhd. This dish originated from Kulim Kedah.

We decided to try it out one day. It is a 2-storey shop with plenty of Malay + Chinese customers at lunch time.

招牌菜is Nasi Ayam Dot Mai, so all 6 of us placed our bet on it, it had better taste good....

I forgotten what drinks did I order, peach tea or something, the taste was ok. The malay waitress was very friendly and polite when we asked her all sorts of question =)

This is how it looks like, 2 pieces of chicken + rice + soup + 2 types of sauce (spicy/sweet). Looks nice but ooohh...the Dot Mai chicken was too dry and we had to chew for quite a long time to consume 2 pieces of chicken each ("-_-)

The only good thing about this dish was it was not oily at all and the portion of rice was really a big, even the guys were very full after finishing their meal.

the service was ok, operating hours was long so it is convenient (until 1am!) but unfortunately the quality of the food was not up to standard (my standard... =P)

so, err...I won't be going back to this place for quite a long time...

What better to eat on a rainy day than hot-steamy steamboat ?! my sis brought us to this all-you-can-eat shop in Puchong (franchise restaurent, I knew Taiwan also have this shop), even with reservation also had to wait for a while ("-_-)

The actualy steamboat dining area is upstairs, like a big canteen with kaiten belts transporting the raw ingredients all over the place. Other than the raw ingredients, the waitress will walk around to distribute some fried food but in very little quantity and usually end up with an empty tray before she even reaches us, bummer !
Most of the customers were youngsters.

There was free flow of green tea, lime/orange slurpy.
The thin slices of pork (only half left on the plate, lol), the slices of fish was also good but i didn't take photo =P

Everyone gets an individual pot, 1 bowl of soy sauce with onions for your soup and chilli sauce.

I personally won't go back to this place, as the quality of the food was low, service was not good (we ordered some fried sausages and french fries but had to wait for a long time and the waitresses were not very friendly either, they only serve the food to the big group of teenage boys), the price was around RM2x for adult and RM15 for kids but I'm sure those ingredients on the belt were all cheap and the best steamboat I've tasted is still JPOT at VIVO in Singapore.

Bah Kut Teh Mo Sang Kor

We reached this shop around 10am on a Sunday morning. I chose this shop out of the 3 Mo Sang Kor outlets simply because it was nearest among the 2 GPS coordinates I have.

But there was NO PLACE TO SIT ! It was a small old shop with every seat taken... We had to stand for 15 mins to get a table.

The missy in singlet is the only person choosing the meat out from the big pot according to your preference (皮+肥肉或瘦肉). Even though I like to eat the chewy stewed pork skin cooked on slow fire, I chose the "lean meat" (and it turned out to be meaty and tender)

The aunty in pink shirt was kind enough to take our orders with smiley face and brought us extra gravy when we made a request ( other workers there won't give extra gravy). Surprisingly this bah kut teh doesn't come with Yao Zha Guai ?!

We had been waiting for more than half an hour and started to feel hungry. So 2 of us took turns to walk to a stall at the opposite road junction to purchase 油炸鬼 and snipped them into pieces to eat while waiting for the famous pork knuckle bah kut teh.

Little boss started eating his plate of rice even though the pork knucle wasn't served yet ! Hungryy...

Finally, a small bowl of pork knuckle bah kut teh was served to each of us, Mo Sang Kor Bah kut Teh exhibits a soup base with thicker and darker texture. Cooked for long hours, the meat was not dry at all (you can see that from the chunk which I crossed-sectioned). There was no strong herbal smell of bah kut teh, it was quite different from the usual Klang bah kut teh...more of like 鲁肉饭.

Other than the 4 small bowls of pork knuckle for each of us, we shared this bowl of chicken feet, OK but not the best I've eaten.

Overall bill was RM44.50 for 4 adults and 1 little boss (inclusive of the pot of tea)

It was nearly noon when we were in PJ and we saw Kie Kee Chicken Rice and Weng Kee Air Batu Kacang marked on the GPS map (and my stomach was growling =P) So we followed the GPS to PJ Old Town Food Court. I was a bit reluctant when we saw it was beside the market but we decided to go in and have a try as there were many people going into this brick building.

There was a crowd surrounding stall# 41 (Singaporeans said "Follow the crowd and u'll find good food", how true! lol)

See, looks delicious, right? The roasted chicken skin was crispy and sweet while the meat was tender and juicy. Goes very well with a plate of 油饭. (Didn't taste as well after I dapao some back home)

However, the curry pork was not so good, there was a "powdery" taste in the curry, probably they didn't use curry paste to cook it.

Next is the cendol or air batu kacang, I saw it on most of the table and told the uncle I want 1 of those people are having =P

Where to hangout on a hot Saturday morning ? It was a spontaneous idea to visit this restaurent when Mel & I passed by the shop at 11:15am. And yes, they were not yet ready for business by that time but we were given menus and we placed our order while waiting at one of the tables outdoors.

The interior design was simple yet comfy.

I love the drawings painted with colour-pencils pasted all over one side of the wall in the restaurent.

1st page of the menu, that is the Mahi-mahi fish I ordered !

Ngo joined us halfway and ordered Iced Latte, it was a huge glass, biggest latte i've ever seen -> RM 5.50

Soup of the day was Garlic Soup (wow!) -> RM 8.00

Mel's Garden Salad -> RM 6.00

Ngo's Smoked Tuna Salad ->RM 15.00

Here is the attraction of this shop, Mahi-mahi Fish & Chips -> RM 16.00

With tartar sauce (oh, in the little jug is honey for Mel's Camomile Tea)

We sat there and chat for hours, a relaxing place and other tables were occupied by some young people, washroom was clean, and there was not service or government tax ! Excellent ! LOL~*

And most importable of all, the bull frog cooked with ginger/spring onion and my favourite gongpou eel, delicious ! u can see the gravy was boiling like crazy !

Not as spicy as 阿南田鸡粥 but the taste was good too, the ingredients were fresh.

Nice to hangout at the quiet shop and chit-chat with friends, bull frog price is RM9.00 each, we ordered 2. Eel costed RM18. Total bill with 3 drinks topped up to around RM45.

Look at the Michelin baby! He was the center of my attention throughout the night,lol~*
Went to this German restaurent called Werner's, situated at the group floor of a guesthouse at Siglap, Singapore. Tony said the place is owned by a German so the food is considered authentic =P
The place was crowded + fully occupied, as we didn't make any reservation, we had to wait for around 20 minutes for a table and I took the chance to have a close look at the delicious looking pastries and frozen pork/beef pies. I won't have been able to resist from buying some back with me if I was not staying at the hotel =(

Finally were shown to our table and there were my favourite Paulaner beer and lots of dishes, I only snapped 1 page out from the menu, they have appetizers, side dishes, pastas,....

I agreed in a sense that it was indeed quite different from the taste I've experienced in Ingolf's Kneipe (IK is more salty) near Batu Ferringhi, Penang.

This is what I had, Rindsgoulash - tender beef in thick gravy served with spatzle & red cabbage ( I don't like their red cabbage =/). Spatzle was like chewy-pan-mee, lol, nice. Beef was really tender, gravy tasted like salty curry.

How could we not try the famous german dish here, Knusperiege Schweinhaxe - Crispy pork knuckles served with mashed potatoes and saurkraut ( I don't like saurkraut =/). I simply love the crispy-fried-skin on the pork knuckle, the meat was succulent. Mashed potatoes was really plain but smells great, I like it ^-^

Tony ordered Frikadellen - pork & beef patties served with cauliflower & mashed potatoes.

Finally...girls' favourite --- DESSERT !

I was already full and contented with my mind going blank slowly... lol.
That picture only showed QUARTER of the dessert available (?!), 非常壯观.
Yummy Tiramisu, regretfully I was too full to try the cheese cake and all the little tarts/delicacies.

There was also ABC (ais-kacang bar), crepe bar, thick and creamy ice-cream from the ice-cream bar, chocolate fondue....sliced fruits...
The chef recommended blueberry + chocolate chips as filling for my crepe (he said pineapple jam is also very popular), I like this, he made it on the spot too.

That's all I can stuff into my stomach for the night..phew...I could barely move...took another walk in the garden before going back home. Dunno how long do I need to run on the treadmill or jog to burn the calories, lol~*

With all the delicious food, I don't care they do not serve pasta or house wine. It was WORTH IT, I was satisfied and food was excellent~*

Happy diners, nearly half were Mat Salleh with family, or chinese couples or friends chatting cheerfully over good food ^-^ Ok, time to wash my palate with some sharksfin soup before I start my main course (in cantonese "鱼翅漱口"), it was delicious ! And I do love sharksfin soup, ichiban !

I headed over to the grilling section and I found the almost godly huge chunk of beef and fish, both very well-grilled, especially the fish, slurrpp

I ordered some grilled lobsters, scallops and prawns in black pepper sauce/sweet & sour sauce which the chef cooked for me right on the spot.
MMmmmm...delicious scallops ( prawn was hidden at the bottom, blocked from view by the baby lobster)

There were lots of other western dishes which I did not take photos, the Chinese noodles bar, Indian dishes and also Malay satay (beef and chicken satay was excellent with the hot peanut-satay sauce, but do avoid the ketupat)

Lots and lots of oysters! I had around 3 to 4 huge oysters that night! Fresh and succulent, add a little bit of Tabasco sauce and lemon juice, totally beaten the cheese-baked oysters.

Mountain of Slipper Lobsters, I didn't take this as there was a grilling bar which serves grilled lobsters with sizzling sauce.

I forgot what was this called, not bad when dipped into wasabi/garlic mayonaise.

Time to go over to the sushi bar....they also have some nigiri sushi which you will see on my plate later

My must-have, baby octopus, and jellyfish with sesame, yay!

People has been telling me how good the buffet at Rasa Sayang is, I missed the chance to dine there during the buy-1-free-1 promotion (was told it was not worth it due to no lobsters and oysters etc, 塞翁失马,焉知非福 =P )

I made a Saturday night reservation weeks ago and thank god I made a booking, the floor was FULL on the night I went there! Reached there around 6:30pm and took a walk around Rasa Sayang, the interior design has an ambiance mixture of zen, tribal culture and nature. This is the first view of the garden after i passed throught the cosy corridors.

The big pool beside the huge trees, I felt like I was on holiday!

That night Levi's Strauss was also holding some dinner at Rasa Sayang but at another restaurant at a separate building. This is the counter at the entrance of Spice Market Cafe

I've been wanting to try this Korean bbq at Jln Tanjung Bungah for quite some time, finally I went there with my parents for dinner.

There are 3 types of seating, the bunk style, normal table and VIP room. Most waiters are Cambodian or from Myanmar I cannot recognise but definitely not Bangla =P The waiter who served my table was very polite and smiley.

After consulting our waiter, we ordered Samgyeobsal Gui (Fresh Pork Belly) - RM27,

Yangnyeom Galbi (Beef Rib with Soysauce) - RM55,

Dolsot Bibim Bab (Boiled Rice Mixed with Vegetables) - RM19

and 2 white rice - RM3 x 2, we were given a free big bottle of tea which my mom likes ( you can see it in the picture below, the bottle with the sexy babe photo). The service was quick, all the side dishes came after a couple of minutes, fresh and boiled kimchi, salad, egg, beansprouts, potatoes, lettuce, all sorts of vegi...

Our waiter cooked the pork and beef for us, we just sit back and relax. First he started on the pork belly (uughh...looks a little fatty...maybe i should've ordered some other type of pork)

This is the uncooked beef ribs with soysauce,

Sizzling beef ribs was later cut into small pieces when served. This tasted better than the fresh pork belly, mmm...

We wrapped the cooked meat in a piece of vegi, add a slice of garlic and some chilli paste before gobbling it down with some rice. I didn't try dipping them into the sesame oil and soy sauce.

Mom + Dad were joking about serving fresh vegi with some cooked meat as dinner at home from today onwards by learning from this meal ("-_-)

The bibim bap was stirred with some chilli paste (The waiter told me "Not spicy at all, even baby can take" haha)

And the spicy vegi soup which came together with bibim bap, i like the big headed bean sprouts!

And also the fluffy steamed egg, my favourite of the night ! It was different from the smooth steamed egg we usually have. Serving was big enough for the 3 of us, it came together with the food we ordered but I didn't know which one.

Our waiter came up with more surprises, "Tongshui, Tongshui.." he said. It was barley as dessert, cooling after sitting in front of the charcoal during the meal (but no smoke anywhere, they didn't even need to install an ugly exhaust pipe directly on top of the grilling spot like Daorae or 长春馆 , the smoke was sucked into the hole in the middle of the grilling spot, amazing)

More free dessert, slices of watermelon shaped like an arrowhead =P

Total bill RM112.35 for 3 person, overall the meal was good, spacious environment with friendly service. No government tax yet, so you better go and try now !

I was not exaggerating, the name of the place was really called "Paradise", lol

We were attracted by the execessively used colour--> Red, when we saw the place right across the road while hunting for a place to treat ourselves to a nice dinner after the dizzy boatride.

This is the kitchen... we sat at the open-air section and ordered some Thai style seafood (the sambal was so good we dipped simply any food into it before eating! ).

What else to treat ourselves to? Lobster !!! Chunks of lobster meat was fried till crispy on the outside and soft on the inside then topped with fruit salad, delicious - RM 190

Kam hiong crabs (crabs again?!) will little gravy, just dry enough for Adeline + Yeo who doesn't like messy crab gravy - RM60

Vegi was nice, i think there was a little bit of belacan taste in this dish.

Deep fried sotong rings was slightly over-fried.

Zhok-than was gigantic but slightly chewy, maybe those were grandpa-zhok-than.

Thai style steamed sek-pan ! One of the most popular dish that night, fish was fresh and the soup, oooooooOOo...the soup, Christine couldn't stop drinking the soup =P

It was around 11am on a Saturday morning, we were shopping at ViVo, Singpore when we saw a mascot looking like a vertical orange cocroach (at least that was my impression of the mascot =P), Oooh...he was a LOBSTER! On the flyer it was printed in bold "new restaurent in ViVo, individual steamboat", so the 3 of us decided to take the risk of trying a new shop.

The aquarium at the entrance, I was starting to thinking "Oh god, this place looks expensive..we are doomed"

Look at this, the design was ABOVE average, comfy...

With a good view, bright & sunny outside...

A little customer stirring the sesame paste for fun, she asked me "what are u doing?" panically when I snapped her photo, hey girl, that was supposed to be MY question to you! Her father just laughed quietly at her. There were all kinds of sauce & stuff for you to mix around, chilli, garlic, peanut...

The waitress served all the raw ingredients in separate plates, our table was full with all the plates for the 3 hotpots with rice/noodles. We had free-flow Lorhan Guo drink.
Each of us ordered different base for our steamboat, this is Clement's hotpot with Bah Kut Teh.

And lastly my Porridge...The 2 guys didn't believe mine tasted good until they took a sipped, it was REALLY GOOD~* Overall all 3 flavours were good, better than the one I've tasted in Malaysia (even better than the expensive FLAME, BOooooo~*)

I like the minced meat (well seasoned), seafood was fresh, there were little MSG in the food served as we did not feel thirsty afterwards. They served in individual pots so it is hygienic, u don't need to worry about sampling other people's saliva and for those who would like to try a few more types of hotpot soup base, you can try various base if each person ordered a different flavour.

Best thing about this place was the service was friendly & exellent (changed my plate numerous times and the waiters approached me without me raising my hand), environment was relaxing, and the price was reasonable too, total bill 3 person ~SGD$ 75. And we were given 4 x SGD$20 rebate vouchers for future visits (not that I care because Clement foot the bill =P THANK YOU Clement! )

Teow Chew Porridge in Singapore

It was a rainy morning at Joo Chiat, we took a walk along in the rain, searching for some breakfast while holding an umbrella =P Saw this kopitiam at the junction with good business and we thought why not give it a try.

Oh, looks like we stumbled upon some famous porridge stall which was listed in the good food rankings (there were clippings of the articles from various magazines displayed at the stall).

All types of dishes to go along with rice or porridge.

Roasted duck, big Lai Niu Har, crab and even lobster for breakfast?!!

I do not know what to order, so the aunty there recommended the following:

Steamed Lai Niu Har, pricey and must dip into the sauce they made to remove the slight "xing" smell =(

Roasted duck, meat was thick but skin was so-so...

Steamed pork, cannot go wrong with this if eat with porridge =)

The whole meal costed around SGD$23.50 for two pax. Maybe we should have ordered steamed fish instead as some of the other customers had that.

The group of 8 drove from Seremban to Port Dickson at 4:30pm to this hidden restaurent to treat ourselves to lots n lots of seafood, woohooo!

We were welcomed by a friendly super-muscular 70 years-old Ah Pek who wears white singlet + shorts, showing off his bulging biceps & triceps. He lead us to our table while we gaped at his muscles in awe, haha. He even carried the big piece of wood (the type people place on a medium size table to turn it into a large table) high on his head all by himself! Uncle Arnold was very kind and chatted with us.

Dish 1 --- 蚝煎: BIGgggg.. piece of fried eye with oysters.

Dish 2 ---Chilli Crab

Dish 3 ---好像是...蕃薯叶炒蒜+一点点辣椒碎, I didn't have the chance to try this vegi as I was too busy eating the 2 dishes of crabs and seafood, mmmmMMmmm...

Dish 4 --- Fish cooked in curry with brinjal, the gravy was very delicious with rice (drooling)

Dish 5 --- Fishball soup

Dish 6 --- Huge "La La" with ginger

Dish 7 ---Kam Hiong 竹炭

Dish 8 --- Steamed crab with pepper + soy sauce. We ordered another crab dish as one of our friend was not comfortable with eating the Chilli crab with gravy (most of us got some stains on our clothes from eating that dish, haha), this 2nd crab dish tasted very good too

We couldn't finish all the crabs and even dapao... just imagine that! That will never happen in Penang or Tambun if we paid the same price o_O

I will definitely go back to this place !

My favourite wantan mee or 干捞面 is not in Penang, it's at Malacca !

This shop is only open during dinner and everytime I visit this shop ( and I have been re-visiting quite a couple of times too!) the business was very good, there are even Indian families visiting this shop.

Two indian customers placing their order with the 老板娘, the uncle with the white hat cooks the noodles. You can choose either "spicy" or "non-spicy" wantan mee, uncle will mix the chilli paste into the noodles if you choose "spicy", which is just the way I like it ^0^

The wantan mee looks simple, doesn't it? but it tasted great, mainly because of the sauce/gravy.

Usually we will 加料, one extra big bowl of soup with meatballs, dumplings, fried-stuffed beancurd skin, crab stick, fried wantan... dipped into the chilli sauce + 甜酱before eating them, SATISFYING~!

Occupying 3 storeys, u might thinkn they are serving some exotic cuisine from the name "New Paris", but no, they are a 煮炒 restaurent.

Big boss not so happy with being asked to wear the seatbelt on the way there, looked funny despite the colourful background, hehe

招牌champagne chicken with watermelon "balls", the gravy a bit too sweet...

姜葱炒鱼片, the fish was pitifully little,buried in the pile of spring onions, onions and slices of ginger.

Sotong in Vietnamese style, taste sourish...

since I'm not the one who was paying, so I can only mention the sets there are all meant for 2 person only (which I dunno y), so we ordered 2 sets (RM98+ and RM88+ each) and also extra ordered some more food as there were 5 of us and the portion of 2 sets were only to cater for 4.

We went there for dinner, there were 2 more tables occupied.
Patrick ordered different parts of beef, chicken, squid, prawns, scallop, kimchi, soup, lettuce, cabbage ...

Just received my salary a few days ago, so I thought y not go try this expensive looking dim sum restaurent located in Gurney Plaza, and it turned out to be just as I expected ---> expensive and so-so only, hahaha~*
I think the extra $ I"m paying to this restaurent is for their shoplot rental and not for the extraordinary good dim sum they are supposed to serve.

Located at 4th floor, facing gurney seaside (previously was occupied by Amandari or something). There was quite a lot of people, and I was lead to a table beside the big glass window with muddy seaview, which was quite hot at 1:27pm ("-_-)

I only ordered a few items as the menu was not interesting at all, mainly due to the bad presentation inside the menu, very few pictures to show how the food looks like. The price was at the higher end but in the end I still prefer the regular dim sum shop at Apollo, on main land.

Eggtart was ok, but there are nicer eggtarts out there with cheaper price...

Yam with char siew was slightly too sweet and oily at the base, but still ok...

what happened to this?! did someone just threw some sharks fin onto my 虾饺 ?! From the brochure which was delivered to my house and also on each table at Ko-Fu-loft, the sharks fin was supposed to be properly tucked into the 虾饺...mayb the kitchen staff was not too happy with their boss today, therefore they simply threw some on top.

The HK char siew chee cheong fan was a disappoinment, it tasted like the chee cheong fan has been prepared quite a while ago and only preheated before serving, this pic is only showing half of the portion.

And the jasmine tea was very "涩", the more i sipped, the stronger is the taste of "dryness" and "bitterness", we didn't finish the pot of jasmine tea.
There was not government tax to the bill, only 10% service charge, total bill RM 27.50
Well, if you are rich and you don't mind spending more $ for normal rated food at a more high-class dim sum restaurent, then this is the place for you.

My dad and my partner has been to this shop called 王昭君 before,this is my 1st visit there,the shop is located at Rangoon Road (the road beside previously Lai Lai Burmah,same road as 新金山kopitiam). 3 of us reached around 12:15pm, just nice for lunch. The shop was fully occupied all the time during our meal.

The first dish to be served was the 招牌--> 王昭君酸辣鱼头米粉 served in a claypot. We started eating then suddenly realised I forgot to take picture, haha, below is the pic I took during halfway of our meal, u can choose to add fish head, fried fish slices or non-fried fish slices. It was sour but only slightly spicy, very very mild, with slices of ginger and a few chunks of tomato and chilli, 很开胃 and enough fish for all of us.

This is 东坡肉with some little 馒头, like the gravy,肥油的部分已经被煮得不油腻了,很好嚼,QQ地.

鱼片蒸河粉, 2nd most popular dish at this shop,the taste was ok but the shop Kar Siew brought me to eat at Alor Setar was still nicer.

I like their 腐乳油麦, simple, with little bit of red chilli.

The hor fun and bihun we ordered 双人份 each dish. Including 3 glasses of drinks, whole meal only costed RM 52.40, definitely worthwhile and stomach was full.
Yum yum~* Now I feel better for missing my flight last night due to stupid traffic jam^-^

U-Yen Japanese Buffet

I couldn't get a last minute booking at Tenji, so I thought y not try out the restaurent kyspeaks wrote in his blog, Momo Japanese buffet at Bandar Utama centre point.
I had trouble finding the place coz the name of the restaurent has been changed from Momo to U-Yen. They only serve buffet during Saturday night, cost around RM45++ per pax.
There was a little bridge at the entrance and fish were swimming in the little manmade-river, ok, that looks simple n nice.

Only around 3 tables were occupied when we arrived, it was as if we had most of the place to ourselves and there is absolutely no need to queue or wait to get our food. They serve sashimi, scallop, oysters (don't try!腥味重), sushi, garlic rice, yaki soba, little pot for shabu-shabu, unagi, chawanmushi, miso shiru, desserts (only have cake and was dry)...

the tenpura section was located outdoors, freshly done fried prawns and vegi in batter, the grilled prawns were badly done, bitter ("-_-)

These were actually baby octopus, but they were huge ! In octopus age, these would probably be rated as "adolescent octopus", lol~*

the seasoned seaweed was good but I didn't take photo of it.
The ice-cream were plain and just the usual stuff.

There are many strong competitors in the Japanese buffet F&B business in KL, I certainly doubt how long will this restaurent be able to survive with normal rating food and few customer during Saturday nights... let's hope they do better in ala carte

Yu Ai 友爱- Seafood Noodles 海鲜面

My sister brought me to try the 老招牌 seafood noodles at Segambut, Selangor on a Sunday evening. This shop is not very hygienic but boast of good food and regular customers. They only sell seafood noodles and hor fun in 清汤, tomyam or curry.

And boy was the bowl of noodles served in a big portion, loaded with seafood, this is the "small" size, around RM16 per bowl. The taste definitely made up for the price, the soup was thick and very "curry", chunks of fish, squid, prawns, oysters,....thumbs up !

The tomyam was not so tasty, in the end we moved the seafood and noodles into the curry soup, hahaha~*

3 adults shared 2 bowls of "small" size seafood noodles, but I saw other tables the customers all had one bowl to themselves (*Sweat,how to finish*) my nephew was just messing around with the sambal jar + chopsticks/spoons ("-_-) occasionally dumping spoonful of sambal into our bowl

Conclusion: worth visiting for the yummy curry mee, if u dun mind the rubbish lying around the floor and u have to asked them to clean the tables...

OCEAN GREEN 海洋青

Today is my dad's 71st birthday, happy birthday Dad ! I didn't know where to bring my dad for dinner until I remembered Ronald told me the food at Ocean Green opposite Northam Hotel was quite good. Reached there around 8pm, half of the restaurent was full, the place brought back old memories to my dad as the small "chinese hotel" beside Ocean Green has been there for many many years (since he was a little boy o_O)

The place looked ok, we were led to a table just beside the beach, there was gentle sea breeze and soft lighting. I found the service excellent, the waiters & captains were polite, attentive and friendly.

Once seated, we were immediately served with hot tea. I ordered asparagus with sambal, fried prawns coated in duck egg yolk, deer meat in black pepper sauce and steamed Pomfret (Dao De, price based on weight), enough for 3 of us. And the food was good, tasty, there were 8 big prawns, deer meat was tender & juicy, the steamed fish was solid + fresh....thumbs up !

Just look at the happy faces of the diners especially 寿星公, haha. The othere customers were big group of Japanese who ordered wine, lots of dishes and their food was served into their individual bowls directly, families, groups of people who went there for a good meal after work...

With the delicious food, relaxing environment & excellent service, the total bill was RM 120.55 and the captain offered us FREE fruits as dessert, one big plate of cold sliced watermelon + nangka + papaya.

Here is the name of the restaurent and tel#. Along the Northam Hotel road, there is one big GREEN signboard on the left, turn into the lane and the restaurent is hidden at the end of the lane.

Definitely I'm going back again ^-^

OXO cafelab - how bad could it be?

My ex-colleagues and I went to the newly opened OXO Cafelab near Queensbay Mall, Penang after work and it was surprisingly bad! The decor of the cafe was still acceptable and I was totally caught off guard with the bad quality of food and hygiene.

For the first time, I am advising all of you not to dine at this cafe,the bread was cold, the salad was just lettuce + tomato + 2 slices of raw salmon, the porridge had METAL WIRE in it (my friend was fortunate not to swallow it), the grilled fish was not fresh, sauteed vegi tasted bad, the western food looks the same (I nearly thought we ordered the same dish!) In the fish & chips, the salad was bigger than the 3 small slices of fried fish, which the fish was not nice again (and that was the replacement of the metal-wired-porridge!) , there were ANTS running around the dessert (look at the little red circle I drew around ANT#1 beside the cookie, with thin pitiful slice of stale black coloured cake & watermelon)

I failed to see y I would want to visit this place again.

Note: the food was not recommended therefore the pics were posted in the smallest size except the ANTS pic, the ants were running around and were too small,plus I didn't use the flash.

This is one of my friend who nearly ate the metal-wired-porridge, and no, she was not picking her nose, lol, SS was laughing in the background, ahahaha...

明记叉烧饭near Jln Alor

炭烤叉烧!
Even 阿贤 also went there to intro this stall in his show. This tiny kopitiam only sells this and it is located near 为食街.
I purposely spent 40minutes car ride to visit this stall, and just imagine I stayed at a hotel a few blocks away before but I never knew this place exist!
Reached there around 12:30noon and the kopitam was nearly full, and it was hard to find parking around that area.

I can see 阿贤's face on display (the newspaper article), but actually I didn't hear about this place from his show, I just accidentally read someone's blog and he's really pro in food blogging (not Tuarpui)

However, the service was fast, they approached me once I stepped into the kopitiam, I ordered char siew and chicken for 2, and they served it fast too.

The 2 dishes including 3 bowls of soup and 3 plates of rice costed RM27, 2 glass of drinks=RM3. A bit expesive compared to Pg but this is not Pg =P
And I heard the 叉烧 serving for 1 person also cost around RM7.

Tasty Kuey Teow Theng at Sg. Nibong, Pg

My colleagues brought me to try this delicious-home-cooked-taste kuey teow theng at Sg.Nibong, Penang during lunch time, situated at the opposite of Sg.Nibong bus terminal (further down, just beside bahkut teh and opposite the Yoga Centre),facing the main road. The kuey teow theng (small) including egg only RM3.00, you can choose to order the dry cintan noodles with a bowl of soup, my colleagues said the dry noodles were good too.

There was 烤面包 at the kopitiam, a variety of ham, egg, sausage... to sandwich between the rectangle bread but I was too full to try. Save that for next time =P

Penang Char Koay Teow o_O

This is the coffee shop beside the famous Cendol at Penang town, usually people will stand by the roadside, holding the bowl of cendol instead of going into the coffee shop because if you want the cendol to be delivered to you, they will charge u extra $. However, I was told the char koay teow here is not bad, so I went into the kopitiam and was shocked to see a FULL HOUSE!The crowd packed in the tiny space. Tried the laksa, too watery, only got the sour taste and no fish, "ngekkk.." banned ! Tried the char koay teow, was alright, won't give an A, maybe a B is enough ---RM3.50

E&O Hotel buffet dinner at Sarkies Corner

Also on the same Friday, after work I went to E&O Hotel for buffet dinner with my friends from my previous company, it was Nick's farewell (all the best to Nick!), the buffet at Sarkies Corner was RM99+ with 15% discount under my company or if you are Citibank credit card holder, the price is still reasonable for a 5-star hotel, right?
Lots of food to choose from, 烧腊 (the spotlight was too strong until reflecting on the 琵琶鸭, u can only see the sausages and bread), seafood (mussels, oysters, scallops,salmon..), sweet fried baby octopus/crabs, meat & meat & meat...!

The chefs cooking and slicing to serve the customers, squids, fish, prawns...the baby lobsters were a bit too salty, one thing worth recommending was the lamb, whole lamb finished after 1 hour!

I'm going to skip those usual dishes served in the metal containers or salads, but the grapes and berries were superb, we ate a lot of that. They also have the fondue for marshmallow, and among the desserts, the creme bulle and cheese cake were yummy ! But the ice-cream looked "normal" only...

Free flow of red/white wine or beer or fruit punch throughout the buffet and people just stayed from 7:00-10:30pm, the whole floor was FULL without a single empty seat o_O

This guy was so eye-catching i must take a photo of him, he was already dozing off at the dining area with his head hung towards the back, guessed he had too much wine/beer, then when we went to sit outside to catch some air & feel the sea breeze, he was sleeping in the garden ! 2 chairs forming his bed, hahaha, I dare not walk too close or use flash to snap the photo just in case his friends stopped me, hahaha~*

Around 9:30pm there was musical performance by 3 Malay guys wearing batik shirts strumming on the instruments and singing english and even chinese songs, we were like a big choir.

Overall the buffet was alright, though the food was not too impressive, not too grand, service was good & friendly. Worth trying =)

潮洲铭lunch at Sunway Tunas,Pg

Last Friday during lunch my colleague wanted to buy some light bulbs from Sunway Tunas near Pantai Hospital, so we went to Teow Chew Meng for lunch, they also have branches at 8row (town), Pulau Tikus (near Yataimura).

This is my 1st visit to the Sunway Tunas branch, there were 6 of us so we took the Set Meal for 5-6 pax, RM98+, drinks excluded, all of us ordered Cucumber Lime (yes, it sounded weird but the taste was good but a little too much sugar), the octopus was at the back...

Other than the octopus, these were from the Set Meal, Mango Kerabu,

the famous 面线糊 Mi Sua Kor,

fried mushroom (I like this),

Lettuce with some 虾米

The seafood porridge was slow in serving so we gobbled it up once it arrived, no pictures on the seafood porridge and Gui Ling Gao =P

The portions were absolutely "not big", but surprisingly it was just nice for 4 guys + 2 girls. With the air-con + good food, definitely worth going back, hehe

Congratulations to Ronald for being promoted !!! 4 of us went to this restaurent opposite Qb to celebrate, actually it was my 3rd or 4th visit to this shop, the service has always been good and the dumplings are nice.
Below are some of the dishes we ordered and 3 guys + 1 girl couldn't finish it (they ordered fried rice / steamed rice each, mine was noodles). Mixed roasted meat, fried squid ( i like the peanut-smelling sauce), chee cheong fan, my dumpling noodles, chicken feet, prawn balls...etc

This is the photo of the 2 funny guys I just met (Mark on the left & Nimler on the right), Nimler was very cute & comical, he kind of scared one of the waitress, haha~*That's Ronald holding the chicken foot (thanks for the lovely dinner + coffee at Starbucks just opposite the road afterwards)

Now I can't sleep because of the caffeine *rolling around on bed* ("-_-)

Baked crab with pepper at Portuguese Settlement, Malacca !

Last Saturday night I was brought to this place called Portuguese Settlement at Malacca, it didn't look like a place with nice food. I had to walk a short distance, then Wow, what a crowd, all the people were occupying the tables + chairs at the 1st stall. There are a row of stalls facing the sea, palm trees swaying in the gentle blowing of the sea breeze.

I had to stand and wait for half an hour for a table(but it was worth the wait!). There were satay stalls and ais kacang by the side but I totally paid not attention to them =P We ordered fried chicken wings, ikan panggang and crabs.

Thank God the rice never came, I saw the portion on from other tables, it was HUGE!

After another 20 minutes wait, the fried chicken came 1st. It was delicious! The fish was 1 fish sliced into half, the length as long as my forearm (elbow until palm), very fresh + the meat was smooth. Then the surprise of the night arrived, steamed crabs, I thought it was just the usual salty steamed crabs, but they were ...different! The powder sprinkled on top was pepper, salt & something else, but it was good (thumbs up!), also very fresh. The whole meal only costed RM 83, I ate until there was some fish left, tried to feed some to the doggy there but it won't even touch it, I think it had too much of that already, haha.

Nice environment with nice food.
Definitely I'm gonna visit this place again =)

Steamed Horfun, Alor Setar

A fortnight ago i attended my ex-boss's wedding dinner at SP, long time since I went to any, leng lui on the left is my ex-partner, Ah Looi, in the middle is Ah Hoh, I still have my ice-cream in my hand, haha~*

Photos that night were taken by some guys with shaky hands, this is the groom smiling from ear-to-ear with his lovely wife ^-^

However, the dishes were not good at all, I should have given RM10 angpow to KH Tan only ("/) the whole group continued for supper immediately after the dinner, all of us squeezed into 2 cars and stepped on the pedal to Alor Setar to eat steamed Hor Fun. It was nice, heard that it is famous, during late night there are still a few tables occupied. Hor Fun + eggs + slices of fish, all steamed together then topped with a little bit of fried garlic. We also ordered sambal sotong with buah petai, quite ok, worth trying. Cheap but tasted better than any of the dishes during KH's dinner =P Thank you Kar Siew + Ah Goh for bringing us there.

It was only a few days after that, I realised the same dish is available at Pekaka Dim Sum, the shop facing 炒饭王, same row as 海外天酒家, it was called 清蒸鱼片河粉, the stall at Alor Setar tasted better.

Indian Rice with Mutton

I went bowling with my colleagues after work, at least 1 year since I last bowled. Wrist ached a bit, must be improper in the way I bowled. Last time used ball 11 but now only use 9, old already. Everytime when I roll the ball down the track, it likes to curve towards the left at the last quarter of the track and thus missing the pins,syeesh! I only played 2 games, scoring less than 80 each, damn!

Next weekend(14th@15th) I'll be participating in the bowling competition organized by my company,just take that as free bowling game sponsored by company, haha~* on 30th of May my company is also organizing a carnival for all employees, heard that there'll be aerobics,telematch etc, some sort of Family Day. Unfortunately, it is on a Saturday (of coz it is), probably I"ll just snuggle in my bed on that day, hehe.

I'm not a big fan of lamb or mutton, but seems like one of the indian food stall at Sunshine market (facing the main entrance) serves quite ok lamb (tender but i guess the stall serving lamb & fried chicken at Sunway Tunas kopitiam still tops the chart).

Gotta end this article asap, can't wait to start typing the next blog which i'm more interested in, haha~*
